Rep. Sykes Applauds President Biden’s Declaration that Equal Rights Amendment is Law of the Land
Congresswoman Sykes serves as Co-Chair of the Bipartisan Women’s Caucus and Vice Chair of the Democratic Women’s Caucus
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) applauded President Joe Biden for declaring the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) as “the law of the land.”
“As Co-Chair of the Bipartisan Women’s Caucus and Vice Chair of the Democratic Women’s Caucus, I applaud and support President Biden's actions to declare the Equal Rights Amendment the law of the land. Equality and progress should not be held back by an arbitrary deadline, so I am calling on the archivist of the United States to certify and publish the ERA, which would codify it into law. There’s no reason why ensuring men and women are treated equally under the law should not be enshrined in our Constitution.”
In 2023, Rep. Sykes joined a legislative effort by House Democrats to force a vote on H.J. Res. 25, which removes the arbitrary deadline for ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) and recognizes the amendment as a valid part of the Constitution, with the 38-state threshold needed for ratification of the ERA having been met.
